The murderer, aged 39, launched his ruthless attack at around 8 a.m. on December 23, 2023.
June suffered hemorrhages from major blood vessels in her head and neck, as well as a brain bleed.
The courageous victim was still able to identify Wright as her attacker, leading to his arrest later that day.
June fought for her life in intensive care for six months before succumbing to her injuries on June 14 of the following year.
Wright was initially charged with attempted murder and has remained in custody since the incident.
Following June’s death, the 39-year-old was charged with murder and pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court on February 27.
The court heard a post-mortem conducted by Dr. Basil Purdue determined that the cause of death was the delayed effects of multiple sharp force injuries.
A judge today sentenced the killer, formerly of Grovers Field in Bishops Waltham, to life in prison with a minimum term of 24 years.
In a heart-wrenching statement, June’s family paid tribute to the “beautiful” grandmother.
They stated: “Our beautiful mum June was brutally taken from us, and as a family, we are heartbroken.
“She was a kind and loving woman who always prioritized her family. She embraced life to the fullest and cherished being around her loved ones.
“Mum was a pillar of strength and stood up for her beliefs, even during the toughest times.
“Our lives will never be the same without her. Although there has been some justice today, it will never be enough.
“She was our world, and we were hers. We have lost the heart of our family, and we feel shattered without her.”
‘ABHORRENT VIOLENCE’
DI Tim Judd, the Senior Investigating Officer, stated: “This outcome comes from the tragic loss of June Henty. She did nothing to deserve the abhorrent violence she experienced that morning, and my thoughts are with her family.
“June fought for six months, and thanks to her bravery, we were able to identify her attacker as Adam Wright.
“While no sentence can bring June back, I hope that knowing the man responsible is behind bars offers her family some closure.”
Desmond Duffy of the Crown Prosecution Service added: “This was an utterly horrific and senseless act of violence against a beloved family member.
“The sheer brutality is incomprehensible, and Wright’s alcohol and drug use the night before offers no justification for the level of anger and violence he inflicted upon this woman.
“I hope that as Wright faces the full consequences of his actions, Mrs. Henty’s loved ones can find some sense of justice.”
