Christopher Musa, the nominee for Minister of Defence, has pledged to investigate the withdrawal of troops prior to the assault on the Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School in Maga, located in the Danko Wasagu Local Government Area.
General Musa made this commitment on Wednesday during his ministerial screening at the Senate, emphasizing that as soon as he takes office as Defence Minister, he will establish a committee to look into the death of Brigadier General Musa Uba.
DAILY POST recalls that troops reportedly vacated their posts before the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls at the school on November 17, an event that sparked widespread outrage.
The retired Army General also denounced the recent capture and killing of a brigade commander by terrorists in Borno State, assuring lawmakers that a committee would be formed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He stated: βIt is extremely unfortunate and truly distressing. I want to reassure Nigerians that we will not idly stand by while terrorists possess the capability to act in such a manner.
βWe will actively pursue them, collaborating fully with all security agencies and government ministries, departments, and agencies. We are committed to a thorough investigation. The Armed Forces have protocols in place, and from the defence perspective, we will ensure continuous oversight of their operations.β
He asserted that no acts of insolence or cowardice within the Armed Forces will be tolerated, highlighting the necessity for strict professionalism and promising to enhance oversight of military activities to ensure prompt and decisive actions when necessary.
