Kebbi: Cattle rustlers attack Augie community, cart away cows, sheep

Published on June 15, 2025 at 11:27 AM

Cattle rustlers on Friday evening attacked Tuwon Tsoro village in Bagaye Mera ward, Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State, making away with an unspecified number of cows and sheep.

Residents said the attackers stormed the village around dusk, causing panic and fear as they forcefully took livestock belonging to several families. Though no lives were lost, villagers described the attack as devastating, especially for those whose survival depends on animal rearing.

One of the victims, Malam Umaru Bagaye, a local cattle owner, said the rustlers took five of his cows and several sheep, his main source of income.

“This is what I use to feed my family and send my children to school. Losing them like this is like starting life all over again,”; he said, visibly distressed.

Following the incident, the member representing Augie Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Honourable Muhammed Sani Garba Tiggi, visited the community on Saturday to sympathize with the affected residents.

While addressing the villagers, Tiggi thanked God that no lives were lost but expressed concern over the economic impact of the attack.

He described the theft as a serious setback and urged security agencies to act swiftly to apprehend those responsible.
