THIS is the cringeworthy moment Katy Perry dipped her bank card into Rome’s famous Trevi Fountain after realising she had no coins.

The is known for its beauty as well as wish-making, where visitors toss a coin into the water over their shoulder.

The gesture supposedly guarantees return to the Eternal City.

But the video shows Perry brazenly dipping her bank card into the water instead.

Referring to one of her songs, she said: “Y’all, I told you in Save as Draft that I don’t f*** with change.

“But I feel like I need to put something in the Trevi Fountain for good luck.”

After dropping the card into the water Perry suddenly scrambles forward to retrieve it, exclaiming “oh no!”.

Italians have blasted the stunt as “unholy”, accusing the singer of poking fun at a historic tradition.

One fumed on X: “Katy Perry turning the Trevi Fountain into a credit card moment is the most unholy thing, that masterpiece has seen since its opening in 1762.

“Dolce Vita vibes didn’t stand a chance.”

Another wrote: “This is so cringe and disrespectful to the culture. What a f****** weird thing to do, and in a hoodie.”

The water that feeds the fountain still comes from an ancient Roman aqueduct, the Acqua Vergine.

Some concerned viewers accused Perry of “contaminating” the water with her card.

Rome recentlywho want to see the landmark up close.

The new fee aims to prevent overcrowding and vandalism often caused by influencers and the tourists they have encouraged to visit the site.

No food, drink or smoking is allowed in the area and residents of the city get free entry.

The fee is expected to bring in around €6.5million (£5.6million) a year, which will then be invested back into the fountain as well as other famous in the city.

Coins worth an estimated €3,000 (£2,600) are thrown into the fountain every day – roughly totalling £1.1million each year.

The money is regularly collected and given to charity.
