The African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Katsina State has produced two chairmen following parallel congresses held on Tuesday and Thursday.

The development reflects an ongoing leadership crisis within the party, involving longstanding members and recent defectors from other political parties.

At the Tuesday congress, Musa Wamba was returned as state chairman, while Nasir Umar emerged as secretary-general.

However, a separate congress held on Thursday by another faction produced Mohammed Rimi as chairman and Abubakar Adhama as secretary-general.

Officials of the party’s national secretariat had earlier rejected the Tuesday exercise, describing it as unauthorised and insisting that recognised congresses were scheduled for later dates.

The crisis comes amid growing internal tensions following the defection of several politicians into the party, with disagreements over leadership and party structure.

Both factions have maintained their positions, further deepening uncertainty over the party’s leadership in the state
