The Kano State Shura Committee has suspended the well-known cleric, Sheikh Lawal Shuaib Abubakar, commonly referred to as Sheikh Triumph, from teaching and preaching until an investigation into allegations of blasphemy is completed.
The committee’s secretary, Shehu Wada Sagagi, informed reporters following a review meeting that they had examined both audio and video recordings of the cleric prior to reaching their decision.
“Today, we convened again to assess the allegations against Sheikh Triumph. We listened to and watched his recorded sermons. We distinguished the claims lacking evidence from those that were substantiated. Every verified point has been documented,” Sagagi stated.
He clarified that the cleric would receive a formal letter requesting him to appear before the committee and present his defense. Until that time, he remains suspended. Following his defense, the committee will submit its recommendations to the government for further action.
Reports indicate that the allegations against Sheikh Triumph involve making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad (SAW), questioning aspects of his birth narrative, and implying that the Prophet’s parents were in hellfire.
Sagagi assured that the cleric would be granted ample time to appear and respond before a final decision is rendered.
