Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, asserts that Nigeria possesses the resources necessary to lead black nations, but mismanagement and corruption are hindering the country's progress.
Onaiyekan made these remarks on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television.
The Archbishop Emeritus emphasized that Nigeria still has the potential to take the lead among black nations if it can combat corruption and effectively manage its resources.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary, he noted that the nation's challenges primarily arise from governance failures rather than a lack of capability.
He stated that Nigeria has been impeded by inadequate leadership and mismanagement.
“The reason we haven’t achieved the aspirations of our founding fathers relates to the management of our abundant resources. We possess everything needed to be the leader of black nations in the premier league of world nations.
“However, we will not reach that destination through propaganda; we will only arrive there through tangible reality,” he asserted.
What are the main challenges Nigeria faces in achieving its potential? The primary challenges include mismanagement of resources and corruption, along with a lack of effective leadership.
