The Kano State Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Air Vice-Marshal Ibrahim Umar (retd.), has resigned from his position with immediate effect.
Umar announced his decision in a resignation letter addressed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. A copy of the letter was made available to journalists in Kano on Monday.
In the letter, the retired air force officer explained that his resignation followed the deteriorating political relationship between Governor Yusuf and his long-time mentor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
He thanked the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve, first as Director General of the Special Services Directorate in June 2023, and later as Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services.
Umar said he considered it an honour to be entrusted with the responsibility of protecting lives and property in Kano State.
However, he noted that recent political developments made it necessary for him to step aside in the interest of peace and good governance.
Umar said his time in office was guided by the values of the Kwankwasiyya movement, which he described as standing for justice, discipline, and service to the people.
He added that his decision to resign was not taken lightly but came after deep reflection.
Despite leaving office, the former commissioner pledged his continued support to the Kano State government and its efforts to build a safer and more prosperous state.
He also expressed gratitude for the chance to contribute to the security and wellbeing of residents, even if only in a small way.
In closing, Umar prayed for wisdom, strength, and good health for Governor Yusuf as he continues to lead the state.
He also offered prayers for Kano State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The resignation comes amid growing political tension in Kano following recent developments within the ruling political structure in the state.
