Kano: Residents condemn killing of DPO as uneasy calm settles in Rano

Published on May 27, 2025 at 01:28 PM

Residents of Rano, under the umbrella of Concerned Rano Citizens have voiced concern over the recent mob attack that led to the death of Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State, Ali Baba.

27 suspects are already in police net following the unfortunate incidence on Monday, as investigation continues.

Sources who spoke to DAILY POST insisted that the mob attack followed the death of a civilian that was taken into custody by the police following complaint of drunk riding of motorcycle.

In a statement signed by Comrade Bello Abubakar Maude Rano on Tuesday, the group described the incident as tragic and unrepresentative of the peace-loving people of Rano, known for tolerance, lawfulness, and mutual respect.

The group expressed condolences to the family of the late DPO, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Kano State Police Command, describing the loss as painful and unacceptable.

They urged security agencies to bring those responsible to justice while calling on the youth and the general public to remain calm and uphold the values of peace and unity for which Rano is known.

There is uneasy calm in Rano, as police has since deployed a new DPO to the area.
