Kano Govt orders probe into killing of two students in Bichi

The Kano State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Makoda, has ordered a full investigation into the killing of two students of Government Secondary School, Bichi, following a violent assault by their schoolmates.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that the victims, Hamza Tofawa and Umar Dungurawa, were attacked late Sunday night by a group of senior students who allegedly lured them into a hostel and beat them using local metal objects known as “Gwale-Gwale”;, over accusations of involvement in “unnatural offences.”;

Two other students, Aliyu M. Nasir and Ibrahim Ibrahim, were seriously injured and are currently receiving treatment at Bichi General Hospital.

Twelve suspects have been arrested so far, according to the Kano State Police Command, which confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

In a statement issued by the ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Kiru, Dr. Makoda vowed that justice would be served. Speaking through the Permanent Secretary, Bashir Muhammad, he warned students against taking the law into their own hands.

“Report any concern to school authorities for appropriate action,”; he said, while extending the government’s condolences to the families of the deceased.

Also reacting, Abbas Abdullahi, Director of the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, said no stone would be left unturned in uncovering the truth behind the tragedy.
