Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has warned that he may revoke the bail granted to the controversial activist, Omoyele Sowore, if he continues to make inflammatory statements that threaten national peace and security.

In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, the judge prohibited the politician and online publisher, Omoyele Sowore, from making any further inflammatory remarks against the nation.

Justice Umar stated that given the evidence of Sowore's previous candidacy for the presidency and the fact that he had previously been granted bail by the court—with his international passport still held by the court—he was entitled to be granted bail on his own recognizance.

This ruling followed a bail application presented by his lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, shortly after Sowore was arraigned on a five-count charge, which accuses him of defaming President Bola Tinubu by labeling him a criminal in his posts on X and Facebook.

Upon hearing the charges, which are being prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS), Sowore pleaded not guilty.

The charges allege that Sowore, who was the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC) in 2019, violated the provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Amendment Act, 2024, as well as the Criminal Code Act by referring to President Bola Tinubu as a criminal.

The two other defendants listed in the charge, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2025, are X Incorp (formerly Twitter) and Meta (Facebook) Incorp.
