Bordalas, 61, is on ‘s shortlist of candidates to replace much-loved manager Oliver Glasner, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Senior figures at Selhurst Park want to secure Glasner’s future but fear the Austrian will let his deal run down and assess his options elsewhere.

And those fears have been supercharged by , with Glasner one of the favourites to get the job.

Bordalas could be a simple appointment for Palace as his Getafe contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Publicly, Bordalas – two-and-a-half years into his second spell at the Madrid club – has refused to entertain talk of a Prem switch.

He said: “I am focused solely and exclusively on my club, Getafe, and on our next match. That is my focus. There is nothing else.”

However, SunSport understands that Bordalas has aspirations of managing in England for the first time.

Getafe have one of the smallest budgets in and a move to the Premier League would give Bordalas more resources to play with.

But Palace may not get a free run at the Alicante-born head coach.

At least one other English club has registered genuine interest in Bordalas, whose managerial career spans more than three decades and has taken in stints with , Elche and Alaves.

With Glasner yet to decide his future, the hot seat now vacant and other Palace replacement candidates in the equation, there are many moving parts to the situation.

But Bordalas is sure to need a strong finish to the season if he is to stay in the frame.

Getafe are currently 11th in LaLiga but only one team has scored fewer goals than their 13 in 17 games.

Club president Angel Torres passionately spoke out against rumours of Bordalas catching the eye of Premier League teams.

He said: “Many absurd things have been said, like that the coach was going to go [to England].

“He’s very happy here and besides, he doesn’t speak English. Why would he go there?”

Torres added in a separate interview: “I’m the one who doesn’t know English. I was just joking. [Bordalas] will go wherever he wants.”
