The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has appealed to Nigerians to join hands with the agency to tackle the menace of drug abuse in the country.

NDLEA urged organisations, corporate bodies and other stakeholders to collaborate with it to stamp out the menace in the country.

The superintendent of Narcotics of NDLEA, Oyo State Command, Achichi Onjefu made the call at an awareness program organised by Association of Humble and Obidient Youth, AHOY, in Ibadan at the weekend.

The event which has “Resolution Conference”; was attended by security agencies, youths organisations and other stakeholders.

Onjefu noted that the agency’s main responsibility is to tackle the menace of drug abuse through sensitization, calling on Nigerians in general to collaborate with NDLEA in sensitizing people especially youths on drug abuse and its consequences.

He warned that there is a severe punishment for both the drug abuser, the peddler and anyone who has it in his or her custody.

Emphasizing the need for action in the fight against drug abuse in the country, he noted that it is the responsibility of everyone to be involved in the sensitization process.

“The agency’s main responsibility is drug abuse sensitization. I call on organizations in the society to collaborate with NDLEA in sensitizing people especially youths on drug abuse and its consequences.

“There is a severe punishment for both the abuser of drugs and for anyone who has it in his or her custody”;.

AHOY Chief of Staff, Yusuf Idris, in his remarks, advised youths in the country to desist from abusing drugs.

He added that illicit drugs have severe consequences on the abusers and society in general.
