, 61, said his relationship with the two-time heavyweight world champion had been “destroyed” by his son ignoring his pleas not to return to the ring ahead of his fight with Russian Arslanbek Makhmudov.
Several of the former champion’s family members also expressed their reservations about him lacing up the gloves again, including his wife .

Speaking ahead of the fight, John said both of them were “stubborn” and added Tyson was “more strong-headed than I am”.
However, he humbly admitted he was “forever in his debt” because his achievements are what have allowed the family to be in the spotlight the way they are and was keen to make amends.
He told Boxing King Media : “Yeah looking forward [to seeing Tyson] because it’s been a long time.
“You know at the end of the day I’m just trying to get things right with my son, what should have never have taken place in the beginning.
“But let me tell you, he’s stubborn, I’m stubborn, he’s more strong-headed than I am. It’s a good job he don’t want to hit me isn’t it cause I’d be dead.”
