Highly-rated wonderkid Gabriel stunned Red Devils chiefs by declaring his intention to become a free agent.

It came after he was not involved in the matchday squad for the Sabah Champions League.

Michael Carrick was expected to bring him into the fold for the visit of the Seagulls, though.

That is despite Gabriel not training with the first team in two weeks – although he does have five goals in three Under-21s and U19s appearances.

But that plan was curtailed after his bombshell request.
