Nigerian entertainer, Uche Ibeto, popularly known as the Jigida Queen, has issued a sharp rebuke to Abuja lawyer, Victor Giwa, urging him to “face his trial in court and stop trying to sway the public with media blackmail.”

Her statement followed a video circulating online in which Victor Giwa claimed he was being persecuted by the FCT Judiciary and the Nigeria Police Force. Ibeto dismissed his remarks as “cheap propaganda” aimed at evading justice.

She said she has been closely monitoring the ongoing criminal cases in the FCT in which Victor Giwa and his associate, Cecil Ezem Osakwe, are standing trial for alleged forgery, unlawful eviction, impersonation and malicious damage in a case involving Asabe Waziri. She described the prosecution as encouraging and expressed solidarity with Ms Waziri.

“I salute the courage of Asabe Waziri for standing up to bullies,” she said. “I understand your pains because I went through the same ordeal in their hands. I stand firmly with you.”

Ibeto thanked the Inspector General of Police and the AIG Legal for what she called commendable work, and urged them to give similar attention to the petitions she submitted in August.

Her latest statement revisits her long-running dispute over her late mother Esther Ibeto’s one-storey building at 36 Ibezim Obiajulu Street, Surulere. She said her mother died without a will in 2013, and that although letters of administration were issued to her two elder sisters, they covered belongings only and not the house. She insisted she lived in the building for decades and still holds the original title documents.

According to her, she was unaware of any sale or legal proceedings until a judgment was delivered on 10 July 2025 in favour of buyer Cecil Ezem Osakwe. She alleged that the ruling was “fraudulently obtained” through impersonation, forged documents, improper service and questionable filings. She also said neither she nor any tenant was joined in the suit.

Ibeto recalled that on 15 August she was forcibly evicted at dawn by policemen, thugs and court sheriffs who claimed they were enforcing the judgment. She accused Victor Giwa of leading the operation and said she was harassed and thrown out in her nightwear. She claimed her belongings worth over half a billion naira were stolen or destroyed and that construction work began immediately after her removal. She added that one of her sisters denied ever taking part in any sale or lawsuit right there on the day of the eviction.

She further listed several grounds on which she believes the judgment was improper and rushed, including undated sale documents, alleged filings prepared by one legal team for both sides, failure to properly serve one of the defendants and a land registry search that linked the court’s documents to an entirely different property in Alimosho.

Ibeto also alleged that her petition to the Zone 2 Police Command in Lagos stalled due to interference by a senior officer linked to one of the defendants, which she said emboldened those behind the eviction and led to repeated break-ins at the property despite police warnings.

She appealed to the Lagos State Government, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General of the Federation, the National Assembly and the Nigerian Bar Association to ensure her petitions and the related prosecutions continue without obstruction.

“Victor Giwa should face his trial in a court of law, not in the media. He is not above the law,” she said, urging the public not to be swayed by what she described as his “campaign of calumny.”

She said justice must prevail not only for her but for others making similar allegations. She added that since the eviction she has been “perching from place to place,” and that her health has worsened. “At my age, I need to return to my home and resume my life,” she said. “I thank my fans, the Nigerian Police and the media for standing by me.”

The dispute within her family has also continued to generate attention. In earlier reports, Ibeto alleged that her elder sister, Laura Okoh, conspired with a judicial officer to forcefully remove her from the home she shared with their mother for more than 50 years. Her family denied the allegations, calling them false and misleading.

Earlier reports also revealed that Ibeto, through her lawyer Onwubualili Sylvester, petitioned the Lagos Chief Judge and the AIG Zone 2, insisting the judgment transferring the house to Cecil Ezem Osakwe was secured through forgery and false depositions.
