The British Star Who Brought a Smile Back to J-Lo: Unveiling Her On-Screen and Off-Screen Chemistry with Brett Goldstein!

GAZING into the eyes of her co-star, Jennifer Lopez looks utterly smitten in the first look of her new rom-com, Office Romance.

But we can reveal the 56-year-old’s doe eyes weren’t just for the camera – she had, in fact, grown incredibly close to her leading man, British comedian Brett Goldstein, and while their onscreen characters were attempting to have a secret raunchy romance, Brett and Jen were not so subtle.

We’re told whispers of an off-camera fling are rife, with one movie source telling us: “It was an open secret during filming about Brett and J-Lo – they got on like a house on fire from the start, and the chemistry was electric, which viewers will see.

“They were very touchy, feely, and always laughing, and everyone suspected they were hooking up.”

It was no doubt a dream come true for Ted Lasso star , 44, who wrote the role specifically for – his celebrity crush.

The pair are said to have spent a lot of time together before filming even started, and in September 2024, they were spotted at the Broadway show Oh, Mary! Together, watching their co-star Betty Gilpin perform.

When filming started in March the following year, made it clear how much she was looking forward to working with .

Sharing a picture of herself looking mischievous during a read-through, she remarked: “This is gonna be a fun one @Netflix Office Romance.”

And we’re told that by the time filming wrapped in May 2025, they weren’t even trying to pretend something wasn’t happening.

The cast and crew were shooting at the luxurious Cayo Levantado Resort – on a private island located off the coast of Samana, in the Dominican Republic.

It’s known for its incredibly stunning shoreline, beautiful white sands and for being a dream honeymoon destination.

Another film insider told us: “During the wrap party, they were all over each other during the dinner and drinks with the rest of the cast.

“They later snuck off to their own private cabana for some alone time, and it’s fair to say Brett looked like the cat who’d got the cream when they reemerged.”

But we’re told it was very much just a filming fling, and once filming ended, the pair went their separate ways.

A source explained: “They had a lot of fun while shooting; it was just what Jen needed after . He put a smile on her face.

“There were quite a few jokes about Brett just being the British version of Ben. She was definitely a fan of his British charm and really felt looked after on set.”

Brett was still on her mind, though, during an October 2025 appearance on Watch What Happens Live. When asked by for her favourite on-screen kiss, dismissed some of the bigger names she’s worked with and gushed: “I’m gonna say I just did a movie with Brett Goldstein, and I would say he was the best kisser”.

They had a lot of fun while shooting, it was just what Jen needed after Ben Affleck. He put a smile on her face.

Despite their chemistry, the movie flopped. J-Lo was still married to her second husband, dancer , at the time, but they divorced shortly after. Ben and Jen then went public, sparking a tabloid frenzy.

Their engagement in November 2002 saw Ben pop the question with a custom-made Harry Winston pink-diamond solitaire ring, worth an estimated £2 million.

They later split in January 2004, with J-Lo admitting it was “the biggest heartbreak of my life”.

Fans had been desperately hoping she would have her fairy-tale happy ending when she started again in 2021, but sources at the time said their very different lifestyles meant it just couldn’t work once again.

‘Biggest heartbreak’

Brett is thought to have been single since 2022, when he split from his comic girlfriend Beth Rylance after a year.

Our mole said at the time: “They’re both in exciting times in their careers and really busy, and they just couldn’t make it work.”

His career has undoubtedly been very exciting after his role as sexy yet grumpy footballer Roy Kent in propelled him to super stardom.

He has remained very coy about his private life but hasn’t been able to resist gushing over working with Jen, describing her as “amazing, charming and magic.”

It’s hardly surprising he’s enjoyed himself – he has mentioned his crush on her a few times on his Films to Be Buried With podcast.

Back in 2018, he discussed her role in The Hustlers and cooed: “She’s 50. I love her.”

He continued: “There’s a scene on the roof, she’s sat in her big fur coat, and the girl, the new girl comes up and she’s shy, and gives her a cuddle in a big fur coat, that puts between her legs, like cuddles her, and I thought, ‘I’d never wanted to be cuddled more.’ Like that is one of the best cuddles.”

‘She’s f***ing brilliant’

On another occasion, he simply shared a picture of J-Lo and added heart-eyes and mindblown emojis.

He made sure a meeting happened by writing a perfect rom-com script for her – he penned it on a train journey while filming Ted Lasso season 3, saying he aimed to write something “funny and smart enough to be worthy of her saying yes”.

Brett later gushed: “She’s f**king brilliant. Me and Joe Kelly, who wrote that film, we wanted to make a real old-school rom-com movie.

“We were like, ‘Who’s the best rom-com actress?’ And we were like ‘JLo.’ We wrote the film for her. And I have to say, like, day one, filming with her, you watch her do her stuff, and you’re like ‘This is the shit. You really are very, very good at this. You are the number one rom-com actress.’ She’s just so charming and magic.”

The movie will be released on June 5 on , which means the pair will be reunited once more to promote it.

An insider added: “Everyone is looking forward to seeing if Brett and Jen will pick up where they left off or if it’s really all been done and dusted.

They have been flirting from afar during interviews, so it certainly looks like there will be an electrifying red carpet.”
