THE Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) are investigating allegations that an Australian player’s father was assaulted by a member of staff at an ATP Challenger event in Birmingham.
World No234 James McCabe claims that he and his dad Patrick, also his coach, arrived at the practice court at Edgbaston Priory Club on Monday morning when they were confronted by a staff member.

This “chaos” occurred an hour before his second-round qualifying match against top seed Martin Damm Jr, which he won 3-6 6-3 6-4.
They allege the individual shouted and acted aggressively towards them during the interaction at the tournament venue.
The 22-year-old Aussie – who was born in Iba, Zambale, s in the Philippines – claims the staff member followed them for approximately 50 metres before blocking his dad’s path at a building doorway.
McCabe alleged that the staff member then grabbed Patrick with both arms and “slammed” him into the door area in front of a group of ball kids and “adult supervisors.”
McCabe said his dad – who had previously had C5 cervical spine surgery – was taken to a local hospital in after experiencing arm pain, pins and needles, and dizziness.
On , McCabe posted a series of issues that he wants resolved around the “serious police-reported player/coach safety incident”, which included the preservation of CCTV.
McCabe went out of the tournament on Wednesday as he lost 7-6 6-3 to Pole Kamil Majchrzak in the Last 32.
West Midlands said it had “received a report of a man being assaulted at a venue in Sir Harrys Road, Birmingham on 1 June.”
No arrests had been made and “enquiries are ongoing.”
A joint statement by Edgbaston Priory Club, the LTA and was released.
It says: “There is an ongoing being led by Edgbaston Priory Club with support from the ATP and LTA in relation to an incident during the Lexus Birmingham Open on Monday 1st June.
“This incident involves an allegation made against a member of Edgbaston Priory Club staff by a player’s coach and is currently being reviewed by an investigating officer.
“We will be making no further comment whilst the investigation is ongoing.”
