This year, the series brought two teams of together to race against one another in a duels qualifying format, where the quickest driver over a flying lap won a point for their team.
However, just over a minute into her flying lap, at Turn 13 after carrying too much speed into the corner and understeering, leaving debris scattered across the track.
Fortunately, Izzy confirmed she was okay over the Lola team radio and , who has been involved in more than one life-threatening crash scare in his life.
Before the event, Izzy shared her excitement at the “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity.
But in a stunning turn of events, the 25-year-old appeared to predict her crash with a jokey comment in her post to .
She had said: “Eeeek tomorrow I’m driving a Formula E car round Jeddah.
“If you don’t hear from me in 24hrs I’ve put it upside down and backwards into a wall in turn 1.”
And within that period, the motorsport content creator had crashed into the wall, although she had made it well beyond her Turn 1 prediction and was fortunately not upside down.
Formula One icon David Coulthard was working as a co-commentator when the incident happened.
He explained a lot of the energy from the crash would have been absorbed by the car’s suspension, while the halo around her also protected the monocoque she was seated in for the lap.
Speaking back in the paddock after being given the all-clear by medical staff, Izzy apologised to her team for ruining the car, adding the incident was “not ideal” in an upbeat update.
She explained how she did not have enough heat in the tyres before attempting to brake, meaning as she turned she lacked the grip to sufficiently turn and slow down around the corner before coming to an abrupt stop into the wall.
