The Lead Pastor of the Citadel Global Community Church, Tunde Bakare, expressed his disappointment that Nigerian Senators engage in politics while the US Congress takes decisive action regarding the violence occurring in the country.
Pastor Bakare made these remarks on Sunday during his State of the Nation Address in Lagos, denouncing the National Assembly for its inaction amid the ongoing crisis.
“It is a disgrace to our National Assembly that it was the United States Congress, rather than the representatives elected by Nigerians, who convened a hearing to address the experiences of citizens suffering from insecurity,” he stated.
“While those in Abuja were preoccupied with political maneuvering, scrambling for political relevance, and switching parties in their desperate efforts to secure their positions ahead of the 2027 elections,” he added.
He pointed out that US President Donald Trump had used some of the harshest language ever employed by a world leader to describe Nigeria, labeling it a “now-disgraced country.”
The cleric further noted that the government's sudden surge of activity following Trump's comments revealed its prior indifference.
He accused Nigerian leaders of burying their heads in the sand like ostriches while remaining focused on the politics of chaos instead of effective governance.
