Suspected members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly kidnapped a mobile police officer while he was traveling in a commercial vehicle along the Damasak–Maiduguri road in northern Borno.
Renowned security analyst, Zagazola Makama, revealed the details of the abduction in an update shared on his official X account on Tuesday.
According to him, the incident took place on Monday morning near Kareto, a community situated close to the Nigeria–Niger border, when the armed terrorists launched an assault on several passengers heading to Maiduguri.
Zagazola identified the abducted officer as ASP Felix Lucius from the 73 Police Mobile Force (PMF).
Citing reliable sources, Zagazola reported that the terrorists emerged from the bushes, obstructed the roadway, and forced the passengers out of the vehicle before identifying and abducting the officer.
In response to the incident, troops from Operation HADIN KAI have initiated a coordinated search-and-rescue operation aimed at tracking down the kidnappers and safely recovering the officer.
Kareto, located between Damasak and Gubio, has frequently been a hotspot for ISWAP activities due to its strategic location and proximity to international escape routes.
