From the rise of warm, neutral colours to personality over minimalism – here’s what you need to know.

Martha Ferreira, Senior Associate Interiors Director as Present Made Eddington and has been at the helm of creating a neighbourhood of thoughtfully designed, elevated homes and has extensive experience in innovative, sustainable and modern design.

She has explained what to look out for when decorating your home and how you can incorporate them into your space.

The rise of the ‘modern neutral’

According to the interiors pro, next year there will be more like browns and greens, rather than cooler beige tones.

This, Martha explained, lends itself to “the wider trend of welcoming homes designed for hosting and lounging over formality.”

Personality over minimalism

As well as warm tones, bold is back with more statement colours and pieces of furniture.

Think gallery walls, bright paint and fun accessories over the previously popular minimal design elements and matching furniture sets in rooms.

You don’t have to spend a fortune to create this look either – shopping second hand is a great way to create an eclectic look.

Lounging over formality

Opting for comfort over formality will also be a big trend going forward – expect to see plenty of cushions, soft lighting and comfy furnishings.

Rugs and throws can be incorporated into this trend to help create the cosy vibes too, Martha added.

Sustainability in mind

DIY upcycling will be back, the interior pro revealed, but this time on a bigger scale.

Homes will be designed with this in mind, Martha explained, with solar panels, use of natural paint or efficient waste disposal systems.
