Right activist, Derrick Agberen has urged the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo to order the immediate and unconditional release of Students of Ambrose Ali University, AAU, Ekpoma who were arrested and arraigned before the Court by Police on Monday.

Residents and some students had on Monday staged a peaceful protest against the kidnapping and general insecurity in the town.

However, reports said the police allegedly forcefully arrested students in their hostels.

A video footage alleged forceful entry into students’ hostels at midnight, damaging their doors and teargassing them.

Agberen in a statement sent to newsmen said,”HE Sen Monday Okpebholo, release the students of Ambrose Alli University unconditionally. Even kidnappers in their safe havens within Edo State do not receive this unjust treatment meted out to these students for protesting against insecurity in your state.”

Agberen also said, “Today, the authorities of the student union have been undermined as various state governments and the federal government assert control over the leadership, with the perception that no consequences will follow.”

He noted that this ‘should serve as an eye-opener to Nigerian students. Nevertheless.”
