The Deputy Director General, Northern Elders Forum, Salisu Mohammed, says the State of insecurity in the North and Nigeria as a whole is at a point where president Bola Tinubu should declares a national emergency.

Mohammed made this call on Thursday, while responding to questions in an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television.

He stated that insecurity in the north has now drained into insecurity in Nigeria, adding that the best way to tackle it is to take the it as a national emergency that requires drastic handling.

“The position of Northern elders in the state of insecurity in the North and especially the whole country, is such that Mr President should declare national emergency, not just in the North.

“What we are saying is that insecurity in the North has now metastasized into insecurity in Nigeria, and therefore the best way to tackle it should be a declaration of National emergency that requires more drastic handling.

“This will require all societal approach, the engagement of citizens, not just Armed Forces, police and security apparatus, because the security architecture of the country has been overwhelmed,” he said.
