A CHINESE mukbang influencer has died just three days after filming a haunting video from hospital warning that “health comes first”.

Chen Ziyi, 24, tragically died from health complications linked to her extreme mukbang videos and severe purging habits.

The 24-year-old, known to her 1.2 million followers as Ganfan Yingying, was known for her infamous Mukbang videos which she posted on Chinese video platform Kuaishou.

A mukbang is an online broadcast where a host eats large quantities of food while interacting with viewers.

The influencer openly admitted that her health problems were linked to her work and said it was not the first time she had been hospitalised.

She candidly revealed that she would repeatedly make herself sick after eating huge meals on camera.

In her final video, posted from hospital on August 14, Chen revealed her blood potassium level was “dangerously low”.

She told her followers: “It may look glamorous on the surface, but behind the scenes you have to keep eating all night.

“Money is important, but health comes first forever, so please take good care of your bodies as well.

Chen claimed her potassium level had fallen as low as 2.3 mmol/L, compared to a normal range of around 3.5 to 5.5 mmol/L.

It stood at 2.5 mmol/L when she arrived at A&E before rising to 3.3 mmol/L following treatment.

She sadly died three days later on August 17.

In an online post on September 4, her heartbroken parents wrote “May there be no more suffering in heaven, rest well”.

They said: “In the bloom of youth, it ended too soon.

“Mum and Dad will always miss you.”

No official cause of death has been confirmed but a person close to the case claimed she had a heart attack.

Chen often spoke about the brutal pressure creators face to devour monstrous amounts of food in an effort to boost views.

She once reportedly ate between 60 and 70 preserved eggs during a single promotional livestream.

Regrettably, she also talked about the physical toll mukbangs were taking on her body.

Her Kuaishou page has since been taken down.

While binge eating itself does not typically cause potassium loss, repeated self-induced vomiting or laxative use can lead to severe low levels of potassium, which can be fatal.

Dr Chai Qichen, of Zhejiang Hospital’s general practice department, warned that mukbang creators often purge after filming.

Her death is part of a wider trend of extreme eating creators who have faced serious health problems.

In July 2024, Chinese creator Pan Xiaoting, also 24, reportedly passed away during a livestream after participating in prolonged mukbang sessions.

Reports described her spending hours eating extremely large amounts of food.
