A human rights organization, operating under the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), asserts that the recent leadership transition at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) serves as a critical test for the credibility of the upcoming Anambra State governorship election set for November 8.
Intersociety, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Emeka Umeagbalasi, noted that this transition presents an opportunity to bolster public confidence in the electoral process and enhance voter participation.

Umeagbalasi emphasized that numerous citizens have voiced concerns regarding electoral transparency; however, the appointment of new INEC leadership provides a chance to restore trust and ensure a more credible and participatory process.

He stated that a transparent and unbiased approach from the new INEC administration would motivate more eligible voters to engage in the democratic process, particularly in states where voter turnout has historically been low.

Intersociety highlighted that reinforcing the integrity of the electoral process is essential for advancing Nigeria’s democracy.

The organization urged the new INEC leadership to focus on fairness, transparency, and professionalism in conducting the Anambra election.

It also called upon political actors, security agencies, and civil society organizations to collaborate in ensuring that the November election is peaceful, credible, and truly representative of the people's will.
