The Sultan of Sokoto and Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enhance budgetary allocations to support various educational programs across the nation.

He emphasized that this step is crucial to tackle the numerous infrastructural challenges that many educational institutions are currently experiencing.

Abubakar made these remarks during the 77th foundation day and convocation ceremonies of the University of Ibadan on Monday.

The event was honored by the presence of the Visitor of the institution, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was represented by Abdullah Ribadu, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC); Chief Bisi Akande, the Chairman of the governing council; Oba Akeem Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo; Senator Ibikunle Amosun; Professor Kayode Adebowale, the Vice Chancellor of the institution; and other distinguished guests.

While addressing the audience, the Sultan pointed out that many educational institutions in the country are grappling with significant infrastructural issues.

He took the opportunity to appeal to the federal government to maintain and increase budgetary allocations for the education sector.

In his further remarks, the Sultan congratulated the graduands and their families for their successful journey through the institution.

He also expressed gratitude to those who have supported the institution over its 77-year history.

He stated, “I kindly appeal to Mr. President to sustain and enhance funding for educational institutions.

“This will aid in addressing societal needs, particularly regarding infrastructural deterioration and challenges.

“This marks the conclusion of one journey and the commencement of another. Despite the various economic hurdles our country is facing, may your efforts be abundantly rewarded.”
