The Imo State Police Command has fixed Saturday, October 4, 2025, to begin full enforcement of the ban on unauthorized use of tinted glasses by motorists in the state.

The date was announced by spokesperson of the Command, DSP Henry Okoye, in a statement on Saturday.

Okoye stated that car owners whose vehicles are factory-fitted with tinted or lightly shaded windscreens are strongly advised to visit the approved police portal at https://possap.gov.ng/ to apply for the mandatory permit before the expiration of the grace period on October 3, 2025.

The Command further emphasizes that the ban on the use of tinted windscreens by commercial buses, particularly Bus Imo, remains in force.

“This measure, taken in the interest of public safety, became necessary as such vehicles have been frequently linked to violent crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and “one chance” incidents in the state,” the statement said.

Vehicles of violators will be impounded, while the owners will be dealt with in accordance with the law, the statement warned.

The Command urged all motorists especially commercial drivers to cooperate with law officers during the enforcement exercise.

The statement equally pointed out that permits will only be issued for vehicles with factory-fitted windscreens or those with light shading supported by a medical report or recommendation from an approved government hospital, in strict compliance with security directives.

“The Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of the state,” the statement added.
