Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has reiterated his earlier comment that he won’t run for the Senate or any other elective office in 2027.

El-Rufai said his resurgence in politics is to back the emergence of a credible leader at both state and national levels.

He spoke while receiving a group of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, youths who defected to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, on Wednesday in Kaduna.

El-Rufai said: “This is a government that does nothing but lie every day. Everyone’s conscience tells them the truth. I am not contesting for anything; I don’t want to go to the Senate.

“I am not contesting for any position. That is why I am calling on you: let us join hands and ensure we remove the oppressors.”

The former governor said he wanted leave partisan politics after leaving office but he is compelled to return due to the current happenings within the political scene.

“When I finished my tenure as governor of Kaduna, my intention was to rest. But given the way things have turned out, I believe we must play our part to bring about better leadership. That is why we are back in politics,” he added.

The former governor had previously declared that he won’t run for any elective office.

El-Rufai was governor of Kaduna State for two terms and was once a Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
