Introduction

A Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Farouk Aliyu, stated that if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chooses to dismantle their party independently, it would benefit the APC.

Interview Highlights

During an interview on ‘Sunrise Daily’, a program on Channels Television that was monitored by DAILY POST on Wednesday, Aliyu remarked that the challenges facing the PDP are not the result of APC's actions.

“No, we in the APC do not intend to turn this country into a one-party state. Absolutely not. I assure you that neither the president, nor we within the party, nor the leadership, nor the party leaders have such plans,” he emphasized.

“What is the issue within the PDP? If you recall, Nigerians will remember that during their convention in 2023, leading up to the elections, they faced challenges in deciding who would receive the ticket, whether from the north or the south, and so on.”

“We witnessed it in the newspapers and on television when Atiku Abubakar secured the ticket. He established a committee to select a vice-presidential candidate for them. At one point, they agreed on Nyesom Wike, but then he changed his mind and chose someone else. This caused Wike to become quite upset. This situation is of their own making, not ours, and certainly not the doing of the APC,” he explained.

“However, if the PDP opts to undermine their own party, it will indeed be advantageous for the APC; still, the challenges within the PDP are not caused by the APC,” he concluded.

Conclusion

Farouk Aliyu's insights highlight the internal struggles faced by the PDP and assert that the APC has no intention of monopolizing the political landscape.
