The lawmaker representing the Niger East Senatorial District, Senator Sani Musa, has urged for the arrest of anyone associated with terrorism, irrespective of their rank or status.
The senator made this statement during the plenary session on Wednesday, emphasizing that if his son or any family member is found to be involved in terrorism, they should be apprehended.
Senator Musa voiced his worries regarding the alarming increase in security challenges facing Nigeria, pointing out that it “began in one local government, and now it is spreading everywhere.”
“No state is exempt. I do not want politics involved in this matter; it is a reality. If my brother or my son is engaged in such activities, he should be arrested. The law must take its course.
“They were apprehended with AK-47s and released with AK-47s, without any gunfire or arrests, nothing. And then the next day, we wake up to more banditry. Why should it end like this?”
He appealed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to fulfill his duty of ensuring the safety of Nigerians, assuring that the red chamber will support the leader.
“Mr. President, it is your responsibility as our leader to confront this issue directly, without fear or favoritism. We will support you, as we voted for you. We should not be engaging in politics with the lives of our citizens. We must take ownership of our responsibilities,” he stated.
