"Grandson of Ugandan Dictator Idi Amin Disqualified in Commonwealth Games Fight, Sparking Outrage from Commentator"

THE boxer grandson of infamous Ugandan dictator Idi Amin was disqualified for headbutting his opponent on his Commonwealth Games debut.

The 25-year-old was starting that medal bid, which would have been his Uganda’s first medallist since Auckland in 1990, with a bout against ‘s Damar Thomas.

However, in the third round of their super heavyweight quarter-final clash Abdul was disqualified by the referee after HEADBUTTING his opponent.

Abdul had thrown everything at Thomas, who at 6ft 6in towered over him, in a frantic trio of rounds before he was seen headbutting his rival twice while attempting to clinch.

The eagle-eyed referee spotted the act and was swift to deal judgement by disqualifying Abdul.

A co-commentator was heard saying on the broadcast while watching a replay of the incident: “That’s awful, that is awful.”

Another commentator agreed by saying: “You can’t be doing that. Look at that he even looked up when he did it.”

A commentator added: “Yeah you can’t be doing that, it’s all very shameful actually.”

An additional comment saw the broadcasters say it was not the way you wanted to represent your country.

Speaking before the fight, Abdul had said: “In everything we do, God knows tomorrow. It’s God’s plan. I might be the new King of . It’s possible. When I arrived, I put up the flag, ’cause I like Scotland so much.”

Abdul also addressed his link to his grandfather, who became known as the Butcher of Uganda after an estimated half a million people were killed during his brutal eight-year regime starting in 1971.

He said: “Sometimes people say positive about him, but others say negative about him. That’s why I don’t want to talk more about him.

“It’s not good to say something negative about someone who is not there, and it’s not good to say something about someone negative who was not there by the time when the incident happened, if it happened.”

Amin, a former boxing champion himself after holding the Ugandan light-heavyweight title for nine years from 1951, became Uganda’s third president following a military coup.

As well as the staggering death toll reaped during his time as the country’s leader before his exile, the country’s entire Asian population was expelled and many others were tortured and imprisoned.

He fathered, or rather acknowledged, 60 children, and died in 2003 in without ever facing trial for his alleged crimes.
