After his big win in Qatar, Garry ran into middleweight champion Chimaev – and the Irishman didn’t seem to expect the hostile reception he got.

The footage, which is now going viral, shows Machado congratulating Chimaev on cornering Arman Tsarukyan – who main evented against Dan Hooker – to victory in his first fight in 589 days.

Chimaev responded to the seemingly sincere words by giving the Irish MMA star several hard pats on the back.

As security tried to step in, Garry said: “He’s not going to fight me. He’s good. He’s the champ. Don’t worry.”

Chimaev’s mood got a whole lot worse as soon as Garry asked: “What’s wrong?’

Khamzat didn’t hold back, shouting: “I’m gonna f*** you up b*tch.”

Chimaev put his hands on Garry, aggressively shoving the welterweight as UFC officials attempted to get in between the pair.

“That’s just childish. You’re meant to be a champion in this sport,” Machado Garry responded.

“Your friend just won, don’t ruin his victory.” Garry then shouted over the top of Chimaev :“Arman, congratulations.”

After a foot problem, Chimaev is not expected to be active until next year and nobody was thinking Garry would be his next opponent.

The Irish fighter has put himself in the shop window to face UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev next, though there’s no doubt at his age and build, he could easily step up to middleweight if he wanted to.

Chimaev has a history of being hostile at UFC events, particularly an incident which caused the UFC 279 press conference to be cancelled after he clashed with Kevin Holland, and their camps.

After the win against Muhammad, Garry said: “Do you want the honest truth?

“It’s little d*** energy. ‘I need to show the world I’m tough’.

“You’re the champion of the world, no one needs to see you be tough, no one needs to see you have these anger management issues.

“Just be a man… sorry, I’ll get him one day.”
