IF you’re concerned about skin ageing, SPF should be a year-round commitment – but if you’ve not been protecting your skin over winter, let the recent warm weather serve as a reminder just how quickly the sun can appear.

This week, I tried three SPF primers to see which one comes out on top…

Budget

The Beauty Crop Vitamin Enriched SPF 45 Moisturising Glow Primer, £12 for 40g: With sun protection, you generally get what you pay for, so I was wary of how this would feel and sit on my skin.

The ingredients list sounds impressive, with vitamins C, E, B12 and B5 alongside factor 45 broad-spectrum protection, yet it remains lightweight on skin.

I especially love that it comes in four shades, one of which is clear, so you can choose whether you want the tint or not depending on whether you’re wearing it alone or with on top.

It’s a real hidden gem, and performs as well as a luxury product.

Mid-range

No7 Prime Forever SPF50 Primer, £24.95 for 50ml: Launched this week, this SPF promises factor 50, five-star rated UVB and UVA protection to help stop ageing in its tracks.

The formula is thicker than the SPF I usually reach for, so I was worried it would feel greasy or heavy on my skin, but thankfully that’s not the case.

It remains slightly tacky, which helps lock make-up in place.

It gives my skin an almost iridescent glow thanks to the SPF, which rivals some of my favourite radiance-boosting primers. So, if you want your skin to look more dewy, you’ll love this.

Luxury

Invisible UV Flawless Poreless Primer with SPF 50 PA++++.One of my favourite products of it’s type – but the tube does not last long enoughCredit: Supplied

Charlotte Tilbury Invisible UV Flawless Poreless Primer SPF50, £42 for 30ml: One of my favourite sun-care products, thanks to the weightless feel that can win over the most ardent sunscreen haters.

It has broad-spectrum , and sits nicely under every foundation I’ve tried on top – no mean feat. It glides onto skin like silk, blurring pores and imperfections.

It’s not the most hydrating, so I use it over a moisturiser, and the tube is small so doesn’t last that long – but I’ve been using this happily for half a decade.

Pick of the week

I HAVE sensitive, itchy eyes that are easily irritated, so in an effort to avoid panda eyes I’m devoted to tubing mascaras rather than layering lashes in wax- covered pigments.

They’re wrapped in polymers that lock in colour but can be removed at the end of the day with water – and Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky Tubes Mascara, £12.99, which launched this week has quickly become my all time favourite. Shop at .
