Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has revealed that his visit to President Bola Tinubu was regarding Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Otti clarified that his meeting with Tinubu was not focused on plans to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor, who provided this clarification through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, was responding to a statement made by a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the state, Charles Ogbonnaya.
Ogbonnaya had alleged that Otti met with Tinubu to discuss his intended defection to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The governor subsequently held a meeting with the President following his visit to the IPOB leader at the Sokoto Correctional Centre on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
“This is part of the ongoing discussions the governor has been having with the Federal Government on this issue over the past two years.
“The matter concerning Kanu was the sole topic that brought Governor Otti to Aso Rock, and thankfully, the meeting was both positive and productive, as the President was very gracious and generous,” he stated.
Otti had recently visited Kanu at the Sokoto Custodial Centre after Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice James Omotosho of the Abuja Federal High Court.
