Nigerian gospel minister and pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, has recounted how an alleged traditional spiritualist, whom he referred to as a “juju man,” attempted to place him under a spell but failed.
According to Bassey, the incident occurred along an express road and marked the second time the same individual had approached him.
Speaking during a worship session, he said the man knocked on his car and began casting what he described as an enchantment, allegedly attempting to influence and command him to “do something.”
“I just stood there and laughed,” Bassey recounted, explaining that he responded by declaring Bible verses.
He cited scriptures affirming divine protection, including a passage that says, “Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm.”
The pastor said the man remained at the scene, seemingly waiting for the spell to take effect.
However, Bassey referenced another biblical verse, stating, “There is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel,” to emphasize his belief that the attempt would not succeed.
Bassey said he eventually stepped out of his car and ordered the man to leave immediately.
Reflecting on the encounter, he expressed regret that he did not detain the individual until law enforcement arrived.
While narrating the incident, the cleric stressed that his account was not intended to glorify evil but to highlight what he described as the reality of spiritual wickedness and the power of faith.
He said: “I don’t know how we knew, but this was the second time that this same guy, the ‘juju man,’ was coming.
“One time on the express road, he came and knocked. He was casting an enchantment, hoping that it would influence me. He was commanding me to do something, but I just stood there and laughed.
“I said, didn’t they tell you that as they went from one kingdom to another, He suffered no man to do them wrong; He rebuked kings for their sake, saying, ‘Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm’?
“I just regretted that I should have kept him there for the police. While he was there, he was waiting for the spell to work on me. But Numbers 23:23 says there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel.
“I came out of my car and ordered him to get out of here, you dirty devil, quick. I’m not saying this to boast, but while we do not glorify the devil, there is wickedness in the world.”
