Team GB won gold in the women’s event in the Winter Olympics in 2022, as well as silver in the men’s event.

Both the men’s and women’s events begin with a round robin league where each team plays everyone, then the top four advance to the semi-finals.

Great Britain’s men’s team have now played all of their round robin matches, but have not yet secured qualification.

The women’s side have not yet played all of their matches.

How can Team GB qualify for the semi-finals?

Bruce Mouat’s side require some other results to go in their favour in order for the men’s side to qualify for the play-offs.

After nine games, they have won five and lost four, putting them in third place.

However, and Norway sit in tied fourth place, one win behind Great Britain, with one game to play.

Both sides hold the head-to-head advantage over Mouat’s side, so if the Italians and Norwegians both win, Team GB will be eliminated.

However, if either lose their last match, then Britain will qualify.

Italy play undefeated Switzerland in their last match, while Norway play who have already qualified in second place.

Here is the full men’s round robin table.

  • 1. Switzerland – played 8, won 8
  • 2. Canada – played 8, won 7, lost 1
  • 3. Great Britain – played 9, won 5, lost 4
  • T4. Italy – played 8, won 4, lost 4

On the women’s side of the event, Sophie Jackson’s side currently sit in seventh place with three wins and four losses.

They have two games remaining, needing to win both to give themselves a chance of making the semi-finals.

After previous wins against Canada, Denmark and USA, Britain now hold the head-to-head advantage over the three nations ahead of them.

This means that if Great Britain win both games against bottom pair Japan and Italy, they have a chance of advancing past the round robin stage.

For Team GB to advance, they need Switzerland to defeat both Denmark and the United States.
