The Kano State Hisbah Board has apprehended a 58-year-old woman, Besirat Tijjani from Oyo State, and a 45-year-old man, Habibu Idris from Jigawa State, on charges of trafficking three underage girls.

Dr. Mujahideen Aminudeen, the Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, confirmed the arrests on Wednesday.

He stated that the suspects were caught after they began to argue publicly about money intended for the girls.

Investigations revealed that Idris had been transporting young girls from Jigawa State for N10,000 each, but during this occasion, he demanded N15,000 per girl, which Besirat reportedly refused to pay.

Their dispute attracted attention at the Fagge Motor Park, prompting nearby individuals to notify Hisbah officers.

Hisbah operatives successfully rescued three girls: 14-year-old Rashida Hussaini, another 14-year-old named Kuburiyya, and 17-year-old Rukayya Umar, all hailing from the Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

Aminudeen stated that both suspects have been transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and potential prosecution.

He denounced the act and urged parents to refrain from sending their children away in search of opportunities, warning that “such choices often leave them vulnerable to exploitation and human trafficking networks.”
