Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Idris-Wase, has asserted that members of Boko Haram and other criminals have previously appeared on the recruitment lists of the Nigerian Army and Police Force.
Wase, who represents the Wase federal constituency in Plateau State and leads the North Central Caucus, made this disclosure yesterday during a special plenary session addressing national security. He cautioned that such infiltration poses a significant threat to the nation's security framework.
“My brother, the former chairman of defense, and my dear friend will corroborate my statement. There were times when, during the recruitment process, the names of Boko Haram members were discovered on the list. Additionally, other criminals, including armed robbers and gang members, were also found on the recruitment lists of the Nigerian Army and the police,” Wase stated.
He urged politicians who recommend candidates for security positions to ensure that they are individuals of integrity, emphasizing that hiring criminals jeopardizes national security.
Wase further disclosed that the North Central zone accounts for 52% of the country's insecurity. To emphasize his point, he shared his personal losses, stating that he has lost a brother, a cousin, and a nephew to terrorist attacks.
