It was revealed that the icon exited the production of Mike White’s hit murder mystery series due to a dispute over her character.
“With filming just underway on Season 4 of , it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for did not align once on set,” an spokesperson said in a statement.
“The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks.
“HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”
The Daily Mail reported that Helena quit the series after clashing with Sandra Bernhard, who is also starring on the show for the fourth instalment.

This isn’t the only setback , with the drama series having plenty of drama off-screen too.
Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood played the central couple in the Thailand-based third season of White Lotus as Rick and Chelsea – but it seemed that it wasn’t paradise off-camera.
Eagle-eyed fans spotted the pair were no longer following one another on , leading some to speculate that a fall-out had occurred.
Denying any rift, Walton told Variety: “There is no feud. I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me.”

During a June 2025 interview, Walton confirmed he had started following her again.
Actor Jason Isaacs didn’t hold back when describing the season three filming experience.
He compared the seven-month shoot in Thailand – where he played the character of financier Timothy Ratliff – to a cross between “summer camp and Lord of the Flies.”
Despite not naming anyone specifically, he insinuated there had been some tension between his cast mates, saying to Vulture: “It wasn’t a holiday. Some people got very close, there were friendships that were made and friendships that were lost…
“They say in the show, ‘What happens in Thailand stays in Thailand,’ but there’s an off-screen White Lotus as well, with fewer deaths but just as much drama.”
This is also not the first time creator Mike had run into a dispute behind the scenes.
Throughout the three seasons of the blockbuster show, Cristóbal Tapia de Veer’s distinctive theme tune has been as integral to the action as the eyebrow-raising storylines.
However, Cristóbal revealed in April 2025 that he was quitting the show and would not be doing the upcoming fourth season following creative differences with showrunner Mike.
“We already had our last fight for ever, I think,” he said. “He was just saying no to anything.”
Mike hit back saying to TV host Howard Stern: “I don’t think he respected me. He wants people to know that he’s edgy and dark and I’m, I don’t know, like I watch reality TV.
“We never really even fought. He says we feuded. I don’t think I ever had a fight with him – except for maybe some emails.”
