He said: “I think we’ll reach an agreement on what is best for the club and myself.
“What that agreement is, I’m sure you’ll find out over the next few weeks.
“But yes, I think it’ll get sorted sooner rather than later, whether I stay or leave.
“I love this club. But it’s got to be right for myself and it’s got to be right for the club as well.
“I don’t want to be staying just because of sentimental reasons.
“I want to be staying because I want to be there and the club want me to drive the club forward, and they feel like I’ve got a big part to play in it.
“And if that’s the case, then I’m sure we’ll sit down and agree on something.”
Former United skipper Maguire has developed a thick skin during his time at the club.

Maguire, 33, said: “I think you lean on your experience and your career. And also, I have great belief in myself. I’m a top-level centre back.
“You don’t play seven years at Manchester United, under the scrutiny that we’re under, especially in a centre-back position where every goal that you concede is analysed, scrutinised, or play for at three major tournaments, kicking every single ball, every minute of every game in those tournaments, penalties, without having the belief that you deserve to be there.
“Obviously, when I wasn’t playing at , I was still getting picked by England, when was in charge.
“But I feel like my form for Manchester United probably for three years now has been at a high level, whenever I’ve been available.
“It has been a little bit stop-start over the last two years with my injuries but I’m in a good rhythm now.
“We all know I had a dip in form at Manchester United for six to nine months, for one season probably.
“But since then, I feel like I have played really, really well.”
