The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has stated that the difficulties experienced by Nigerians in recent years necessitate more decisive action from the government.
The caucus also urged President Bola Tinubu to promptly tackle the escalating issues of insecurity, corruption, and rising inflation.
The lawmakers made this appeal in a New Year message released on Thursday, which was signed by the Minority Leader, Mr. Kingsley Chinda, along with three other principal officers.
They expressed concern over the socio-economic challenges faced by Nigerians in 2025 and called on the Federal Government to enhance its efforts in 2026 to alleviate the hardships.
According to them, Nigeria continues to struggle with widespread insecurity fueled by insurgency in the North-East, banditry and kidnapping in the North-West and North-Central, alongside violent crime and communal clashes in other regions of the country.
The caucus noted that these challenges have disrupted agricultural activities, displaced communities, and weakened local economies.
They also pointed out that unemployment remains high, especially among young people, while corruption continues to erode public institutions and diminish the effectiveness of government spending on infrastructure and social services.
Furthermore, the caucus emphasized that rising inflation and the increasing cost of living have exacerbated poverty across the nation, describing the state of the country in 2025 as deeply concerning.
“The condition of our country, particularly in 2025, is alarming and distressing.
“The increasing trend of insecurity nationwide is troubling. Soaring inflation, debilitating hunger, and pervasive poverty are evident in the lives of many individuals,” the statement concluded.
