Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, along with Ike Neliaku, President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), and other stakeholders, paid tribute to the founder of DAAR Communications, Raymond Dokpesi, for his contributions to society during a recent event.
The remarks were made at the 2nd Raymond Dokpesi Diamond Lecture organized by the NIPR in Abuja.
The governor expressed his disappointment that some supporters of former President Muhammadu Buhari turned against him after his term ended, while commending the late media mogul for his integrity and reliability.
He also praised Dokpesi for founding Nigeria's first private radio and television stations, even during a time of military rule.
He noted, “It was a period when nearly everything was under government control.”
Dr. Ike Neliaku, the President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, also honored the late Dokpesi, describing him as a visionary who revolutionized communication in Nigeria.
Neliaku remarked that Dokpesi lived as a trailblazer who dismantled barriers in media, democratized information, and empowered the marginalized.
“At the core of Dr. Dokpesi’s vision was a philosophy that resonates profoundly with the essence of our profession: public relations as a service to society,” he stated.
“He recognized that communication transcends mere media; it embodies meaning. It connects people to truth, leaders to their citizens, and nations to the global community,” he added.
