Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the recruitment and deployment of 17,600 security personnel to public schools across the state.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the initiative will see the deployment of 400 security guards to each of the state’s 44 local government areas.

The decision, the statement noted, follows growing concerns over insecurity in and around school environments, which the government described as a threat to educational development.

“We have taken this step because we bear the responsibility of protecting the lives of our children and their teachers,”;; Governor Yusuf said during an official event in Kano.

“We will not allow fear or insecurity to deny them the right to education.”;;

According to the statement, the newly recruited guards will be trained before they are posted to schools.

“Their responsibilities will include monitoring entry and exit points, watching for suspicious activities, and collaborating with conventional security agencies when necessary.”;;
