The Memorial Tournament 2025 betting tips, free bets and latest golf odds

Published on May 28, 2025 at 07:56 AM

So Scottie Scheffler is human after all, as last week’s Charles Schwab ‘flop’ showed – well, his share of fourth was his worst effort in four starts in that event.

Scheffler has enjoyed more success at ‘Jack’s Place’ – Murifield Village in Ohio – and he heads into this week’s $20million Memorial tournament as defending champion.

And with Rory McIlroy again sitting this one out, with next week’s Canadian Open pencilled in as his warm-up event for the US Open, it is no surprise to see Scheffler installed as a short-priced favourite again.

Memorial Tournament betting tips

The world No 1 is a best priced 3-1 to repeat last year’s success. Two wins, a second and two fourth place finishes in his last six starts suggest he MUST go close. At least.

But sheer bloody-mindedness means I’m going to give another chance to 16-1 shot Collin Morikawa, eventhough he continues to promise a lot more than he delivers at the moment.

The world No 4 only just crept into the top 50 in his last start, at the USPGA, which does not exactly endorse his chances of taking down Scheffler this time.

But he almost managed it in this event last year. He finished strongly to close to within a stroke of the Texan, with the rest of the elite field well beaten.

That was Morikawa’s second runner-up finish at the Memorial, and he filled the same position a couple of months ago at another tough venue, Bay Hill.

He will surely win againsoon, and I don’t want it to be the week after my patience with the two time Major winner finally runs out! Even pushing Scheffler close againwould be a good sign at these odds.

Another player struggling to reproduce his very best form is Patrick Cantlay. It was a big surprise to see him miss the cut at the USPGA, just when it looked like he was back on track after finishing fourth at the Truist.

Maybe Quail Hollow did not fit Cantlay’s eye. As a two-time winner at the Memorial – along with two other top five finishes – he should feel right at home here though. At 20-1 he has to be respected.

Matt Fitzpatrick loves tough courses, and he produced his best effort in ages to finish tied eight at Quail Hollow. He has played well here in the past, finishing third in 2020 and in a tie for fifth 12 months ago. His 50-1 quote is worth an each way interest.

Ludvig Abergshared fifth with Fitzpatrick last year, and 25-1 for him to bounce back from a missed cut at the USPGA seems reasonable.

Among the fancier prices, I like the chances of 80-1 shot Taylor Pendrith and I would also give a squeak to 125-1 chance Justin Rose, who has a win and a runner-up finish here to show his liking for this course.

Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra was put up for last week’s Soudal Open. But in hindsight that may have come a bit early after his trip to North Carolina for the USPGA.

A share of 31st last week was not too bad under those circumstances, and at 25-1 he looks as good a bet as any in the newly-introduced Austrian Alpine Open.

A new event at a new venue is always a bit of a guessing game. But Romain Langasque also deserves another chance at 66-1, after finishing just a shot away from a top four finish last week.

Edoardo Molinari also catches the eye at the same odds as Langasque, and Brandon Robinson-Thompson is knocking loudly at the door at the moment. His 50-1 quote seems fair.
