GEORGE RUSSELL teased Lando Norris about getting engaged after the Merc driver popped the question to partner Carmen Montero Mundt.

The engagement happened in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, an exclusive resort town on the backdrop of the French Riviera – nicknamed the ‘Billionaires’ Peninsula’.

The stunning ceremony involved a £1million rare yellow diamond ring which Russell spent nearly half a year designing.

At the first race back since the summer break, Russell has been in superb form – winning the Dutch Grand Prix sprint race and securing P2 in qualifying.

It comes after a chaos-strewn first half to the season filled with DNFs, penalties, a crash and a water leak in Budapest last time out.

He currently sits in third, 56 points adrift of leader and team-mate Kimi Antonelli, 19, and three behind Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton, 41, in second.

Russell joked that the engagement has made him quicker as he eyes a first ever world championship.

Russell said: “It was a very special moment to ask for her hand. And it was the right time to do it.

“I gave it a lot of thought and it was an interesting process designing the ring and planning everything.

“I thought I’d find the right words, but when I got down on one knee, I suddenly felt nervous. Still, it was brilliant.”

Russell, who was sat next to Norris in the press conference, then joked: “I hope it’ll save a few tenths – even Lando would get engaged if it saved a few tenths…”

Russell met Mundt on a spontaneous blind date in London back in 2020 after being introduced by a mutual friend.

They met just before Russell’s career blew up as well as F1 itself, with Netflix’s hit docu-series Drive to Survive becoming popular at the time.

It is understood that Norris is currently single

He has been romantically linked with American influencer, Alix Earle, although nothing has been confirmed.

Magui and had officially confirmed they were dating during the F1 season last year, after an on and off relationship since 2023.

She attended a number of Norris’ races on his way to becoming world champion last year.
