A security and defence scholar, Dr Kunle Fagbemi, says the lobby effort by the Nigerian government to the United States would not make any significant impact.

Fagbemi stated this on Thursday while fielding questions in an interview on Arise Television, monitored by DAILY POST.

He said that the $750,000 allocated monthly for advocacy should instead be used to address real issues in Nigeria, such as meeting the needs of internally displaced persons.

“I hope that the appropriate committees of the National Assembly will conduct oversight on how the intermediary entity, Astar Legal Services, was involved in this venture.

“This lobbying effort casts doubt on the officials of the Nigerian state who have been voraciously denying the existence of a Christian genocide.

“In terms of development, if you are to look at the spectrum of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, you will discover there is a lot that we can do and achieve deploying that resource.

“Particularly when you look at it from the angle of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, that do not have access to various amenities, that will ensure that they have a standard livelihood and be properly catered for and allowed to live like human beings,” he said.
