The Independent Hisbah Guard, initiated by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje with a potential 12,000 guards, has begun its recruitment process.
The concept of the Independent Hisbah Guard was proposed by former Governor Ganduje as a solution for 12,000 state Hisbah personnel reportedly dismissed by the Government of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Alhaji Baffa Babba DanAgundi, who is managing the recruitment of the prospective guards, clarified that the initiative aims to create job opportunities for approximately 12,000 individuals who were previously disengaged from the state-owned Hisbah Command.
Baffa Babba DanAgundi emphasized that the initiative is free from any political bias; rather, it seeks to provide employment for those who were dismissed and to assist the state and its people in terms of security.
Sheikh Harooun Ibn Sina, a former Commander General of the Hisbah during the Ganduje administration, is at the forefront of the initiative known as the Independent Hisbah Fisabilillah, under the Ganduje Foundation.
He stated that the organization is entirely voluntary and not connected to the Kano State Government.
According to him, the organization was established for religious and humanitarian objectives, insisting that it does not aim to compete with the state-owned Hisbah Board.
“This is not a government agency. It is a voluntary organization created solely for the sake of Allah. We are not in competition with the government Hisbah,” Ibn Sina stated.
The formation of the independent Hisbah organization has sparked public debate, with the NNPP-led government characterizing it as a blatant attempt to generate tension and uncertainty within the state.
Already, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of former APC National Chairman Ganduje for allegedly inciting the public and making inflammatory remarks that could lead to unrest.
