The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Abia State Sector Command has identified speeding, tire bursts, overloading, driver fatigue, and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol as significant contributors to road accidents in Abia State.
The Command also stated that it will deploy FRSC personnel and Special Marshals across major corridors and identified accident-prone areas within Abia during the Ember Months.
The Sector Commander of Abia State Command, Ngozi Ezeoma, made this announcement on Tuesday during a press conference to launch the 2025 Ember Months road safety campaign.
She mentioned that the report regarding accident trends was compiled from a recent analysis, emphasizing that human factors remain a primary cause of road crashes in Nigeria.
Ezeoma, who stated that her Command is dedicated to ensuring safe roads in Abia, indicated that the Ember Months campaign will focus on addressing issues related to mechanically deficient vehicles, particularly the use of unsafe tires by drivers.
Additionally, she noted that violations of speed limits, traffic lights, road markings, seat belt usage, mobile phone usage while driving, and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol will be tackled throughout the Ember Months campaign.
The FRSC Commander, who described road safety as a shared responsibility, announced that strict enforcement of traffic laws would be conducted through patrol operations and mobile courts to address critical offenses.
