African champions Super Falcons edged past Senegal 2-1 in their international friendly at the Remo Stars Sports Complex, Ikenne on Friday.

The hosts took control of the game from the first minute but had to wait until around the half-hour mark before scoring the curtain raiser.

Former African Women’s Footballer of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, coolly converted from the spot in the 32nd minute.

Everton midfielder Toni Payne doubled Nigeria’s lead four minutes before the break.

Payne slotted the ball home superbly from a wonderful pass from right-back Shukurat Oladipo.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade was denied just before the break by the Senegalese goalkeeper.

The tempo of the game slowed after the break as Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu made a number of changes.

Oshoala and Folashade Ijamilusi had Nigeria’s best chances of the second half.

Sokhna Nogaye reduced the deficit for Senegal with a long-range effort four minutes from time.

Nigeria and Senegal will clash in the second friendly next week Monday, also in Ikenne.
